Live Interview: Exploring Academic Journey and Biomedical Materials with Dr. Turdimuhammad Abdullah

In the 21st edition of the "UyghurSTEM Spotlight" broadcast, we had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Turdimuhammad Abdullah, research scientist in the Department of Chemistry at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Throughout this insightful session, Dr. Abdullah reflected on his formative academic milestones and shared accessible explanations of his pioneering research in biochemical materials, smart hydrogels, and regenerative medical technologies.

Who is Dr. Turdimuhammad Abdullah?

Dr. Turdimuhammad Abdullah earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the renowned Tongji University in Shanghai in 2011. Pursuing advanced postgraduate studies, he joined King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Saudi Arabia, completing his Master of Science degree in June 2014 and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with distinction in May 2019.

He conducted the core of his doctoral investigations at KAU's Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials Research (CEAMR). Following his doctorate, he continued as a postdoctoral research associate at CEAMR for two years before joining the Faculty of Chemistry at Istanbul Technical University as an invited visiting researcher in the fall of 2021.

His core research focus centers on designing multifunctional smart biomaterials engineered for regenerative tissue engineering, targeted drug release formulations, and advanced bio-manufacturing. To date, Dr. Abdullah has served as principal investigator or primary researcher on five major R&D projects in these domains.

Capitalizing on his experimental and theoretical innovations, he has authored ~30 SCI journal articles in top-tier journals such as Progress in Materials Science (IF ~33.6). Recognizing the commercial and clinical translational value of his findings, he has submitted numerous patent applications to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), securing 8 granted US patents with 2 additional patent applications formally published.
